Food... the Indian way! - part 1



India and its diverse culture. Each state has its own taste and culture. From North to South; East to west. From creamy curries to spicy south Indian sambhars. The best thing about these cultures is you get all varieties and flavors of food wherever you travel with a little adjustment but almost the same amount love. Here,I am going to take you to the top North,South,East and West restaurants and famous food items one shouldn't miss.


Leh Ladakh

~ Dzomsa : For a quick authentic Ladakhi breakfast of khambir (leavened bread) with homemade khakla (butter) and fresh apricot preserve, jo labuk or tang tur, a sort of raita with veggies, smoky tsampa with apricot or Leh berry juice and gur gur cha or butter tea (free) head to this small place on Fort road. The other branches in town do not serve breakfast.

~ Open Hand Cafe: This is a typically “chilled out” place in a large garden where you can actually see vegetables being grown. Check out for piece of chocolate cake. Try their pancakes filled generously with chocolate, banana, apricot cream or apple rumble or any of their breakfast selections, from yoghurt muesli to toast, sausages and eggs.

~ lala cafe : You go here for sheer ambience and snacks. Beautifully restored Ladakhi house, you are greeted by a nine foot statue of Maitreya. Behind the cafe, you can see Leh palace. Feast on Gur Gur cha while munching on local Ladakhi dishes or Italian pastas.

~ Tibetan Kitchen : You cannot come out of Leh without tasting the best Tibetan cuisine in town. Go for “Tibetan Hot pot” or “Gyakko”. A traditional Tibetan barbeque, this has to be pre ordered a day before and make sure there are four hungry souls to share this! Gyakko can be either vegetarian or Non Vegetarian. If you are not lucky to eat Gyakko, then you have wide variety of Tibetan cuisine to choose from.

~Chopsticks : Possibly the best Chinese and Thai fare in town so much so that you need to go there early to get a table. Try depenadale chilli Garlic Noodles with their fries Veg or chicken or Mutton – with Thai red curry.

~German Bakery : We did not want to leave this out. You go here for its chilled out atmosphere. This is a local institution. Come here for breakfast or just to munch on cinnamon rolls, Apple Pie and wash it Coffee.



JAMMU & KASHMIR

~ Baron : It provides you the best enjoyment with the serene surroundings of hills and lake. The beautiful lights, vibrant ambiance, light hues, friendly atmosphere, and lavish decor will mesmerize you indefinitely to the extent that you will be forced to come again and again.

~ Troutbeat :Situated in Pahalgam, it is a cottage-like a restaurant which will satiate your feelings for the seafood.

~ The Imperial Grill Restaurant : This place serves the best combination of the Korean and the Indian food. It also serves Rogan Gosh and Kashmiri Kebab for the adventure of taste buds. Kofta and Sasha noodles with plenty of oil, tamarind, onion, cabbage, all soaked in a gravy will give you different motive in life to adapt to the changes and try something new every time.

~ Dana Pani: Everyone can enjoy wholesome spicy Dal Tadka with the great view that adds a regal charm to it. Best moonlight romantic dinner can be relished here in its dim light. It serves best vegetarian food in Jammu and Kashmir.

~ Krishna Vaishno : Best option for the vegetarians. It has inexpensive meals, and it is the original dhaba what known. It is in the busy locality. It is made up of fresh and organic ingredients.



HIMACHAL PRADESH

~ Evergreen Restaurant : Flora and fauna are what attract the tourists most. It is well known for its Chinese and continental fare, housed in the hill town. Located in Kunihar, Kasole, Parvati Valley, it is known for its amazing scenic view.

~ Moon Peak:This restaurant has an unending view of the temples. It has best Thali system. It is around the Dalai Lama’s temple path. It offers marvelous espresso café and is the best place to relax.

~ Woeser Bakery : It is the best breakfast place, located on the Jogiwara Road. It will provide you the morning caffeine so that you can enjoy your tour. They will provide you with the excellent homemade cappuccino with the chocolate sauce and the pancakes.

~ Khana Nirvana Community Cafe: It is on Dalai Lama Temple Road, founded in 1997 by the international volunteer team in Dharamsala. This place only serves organic food free from super sanitary and chemical preservatives.

~ The chocolate log:It is a peaceful place with world’s best cup of joe and brownie. It serves the best quality of chocolate, and all the chocolates are naturally prepared. Best sizzling hot chocolates are waiting for you. Hurry up!



PUNJAB

~ Aman Chicken : This is where you’ll find the most succulent and delicious chicken dinner in town. The restaurant has a limited eating space and minimal decor but has a variety of chicken and mutton menu items to choose from.

~ Kulcha Land :Kulcha Chole is a traditional Punjabi dish of spicy chickpeas, and Kulcha Land is the best place to taste it. While the seating here may be a bit restricted, dishes like the paneer kulcha and Amritsari kulcha more than compensate for any struggle for space.

~ Sodhi Jalebi Corner: One of the oldest shop in Jalandhar, famous for jalebis as the name signifies. You can reach to this delicious eatery for mouthwatering jalebis.

~ Rangla Punjab: An auberge which brings the perfect feel of Punjab. Food is prepared with the help of conventional chulah to give it a perfect taste and fragrance. A Punjabi delicacy, Punjabi ambience with Punjabi songs is what you need.

~ Havelli :A famous house of Jalandhar is also famous for its hospitality and the friendly demeanor of its staff which represents a perfect conventional culture of Punjab. Their menu includes all the Punjabi delicacies which is served in a traditional style of thali.

~ Lovely Bake studio : A perfect place for the sweet toothed people. The sweets they offer is sumptuous and delicious.

~ Guru ka Langar at Golden Temple (not a restaurant) :The Golden Temple is not only the holiest place in Sikh religion, but a symbol of love and equality for Amritsar’s citizens – and what better expression of love is there than sharing a huge table of food? Guru Ka Langar is a massive community feast cooked up in the Temple’s own kitchens, prepared to serve at least 40,000 people. Everybody is welcome, and no one is ever turned away.



UTTARAKHAND

~ Town Table: One of the famous hotspots of the city, Town Table is a great place to spend some quality time with your loved ones. The restaurant has plenty of platters and serves North Indian, Chinese and continental food. Honey chili potatoes are a must try. Our pick: Palak Paneer and Butter Naan.

~ Flavors : One of the most well known restaurants in the town, Flavours is frequented by tourists and locals alike.  The restaurant offers North Indian food and Chinese delicacies. Food is scrumptious as well as easy on the pocket. 

~ Black Pepper :With a sitting based on a cave theme, Black Pepper has an exciting ambience. But that’s not all; the food served here is equally amazing.

~ Orchard : Located in the picturesque Rajpur, a mere five kilometers from the town, on a hill with a river flowing alongside, Orchard gives you a sight to behold.  You can soak in the sounds of river water and enjoy the breathtaking views of the mountains here. Orchard serves Tibetan and Thai cuisines. Momos and soups served here are a must-try.

~ Chhaya Cafe :Situated on the foothills of the Doon Valley, Chhaya café offers you an enormous view of the hills. This place is must-visit for all those nature-lovers who want to enjoy the breathtaking view of the hills. The peace you experience here is unmatchable.

~ Kalsang Friends Corner : Known for its Indian, Tibetan and Thai cuisines, Kalsang Friends Corner is a simple, yet a warm place, ideal for quick grabs. This place serves the most authentic Chinese and Thai dishes.



DELHI

~Jamun: Nothing can beat the surreal ambiance and interior of Jamun, you'll be pleased by their commitment to the food they cater too. In a sea of new places, Jamun has definitely stood out with its original concept and exquisite meals.

~ Beeryani: Mamagoto, a famed restaurant for its unique Pan-Asian, this place is good for those who love trying out the exclusive flavor of Asian Cuisines.

~ Pind Balluchi : Known across the country for their authentic North Indian preparations, Pind Balluchi - one of the best North Indian restaurants in Delhi have a strong presence as a brand that does not compromise on quality or either taste.

~ Summer House Cafe: If you're a party animal, this place is exactly what you've been looking for. ~Berco's:Berco's is one of the best restaurants in Delhi perfect for a family lunch or dinner. Their variety of dishes ensures that there's something for everyone, and the reasonable prices allow you to eat guilt free.



RAJASTHAN

~Cinnamon:At the beautiful Jai Mahal Palace in Jaipur, the rich Indian ambience of the decor complements the region’s elegant cuisine. Cinnamon takes its visitors on a regal culinary journey as the Chef presents a repertoire of delicacies once prepared in the royal kitchens of Rajasthan.

~ Suvarna Mahal: Suvarna Mahal at Rambagh Palace serves one of the best thalispreads in the pink city. The appetisers include vegetable kebabs and barbecued lamb, while the dessert menu boasts rich malpuas (deep-fried pancakes) and rasmalais (cottage cheese balls in sweet cream). For a unique romantic dining experience, guests can choose between dining in their own private jharokha with flaming torches and a whiff of desert breeze, or the marble arches at the baradari, lit with an ocean of candles and surrounded by the lush palace gardens.

~ Darikana: Jodhpur’s first boutique hotel, the terrace of Darikhana offers magnificent views of the Mehrangarh Fort, which glows pink in the day and is gloriously illuminated at night, providing the perfect backdrop for a romantic meal. A modern and contemporary space with a solid background of tradition.

~ Risala :Risala specialises in serving a blend of imaginative and sumptuous continental and Indian cuisines. Outside the windows, guests will find spectacular views of the gardens, the blue city and the magnificent Mehrangarh Fort, while the interior of the restaurant is adorned with royal and martial portraits.

~ Sunset Pavillion: Also nestled within the grounds of Umaid Bhawan Palace one can find the highest dining point in Jodhpur, the Sunset Pavilion. Guests are taken to an upper deck in a 1940s elevator with carved wood interiors, and the journey continues through the Whispers Gallery, where the walls feature unique and otherwise unseen images of the Royal Family, hunting traditions, vintage cars, the Jodhpur Flying Club and many others.

~Chokhi Dhani : Chokhi Dhani  was conceptualised in the year 1990 with a notion to promote local heritage and culture that is indigenous to Rajasthan and India.



UTTAR PRADESH

~ Laat Saab: Uttar Pradesh is a land of contrast. The state has pocket-friendly eating joints pitted against fine dinings restaurants. Laat Saab in The Great Indian Place is one such place.

~ Falak Numa Restaurant :Uttar Pradesh is a land of contrast. The state has pocket-friendly eating joints pitted against fine dinings restaurants. Falak Numa Restaurant in Hotel Clarks Awadh is one such place. It is present in Hotel Clarks Awadh, at Hazratganj in Lucknow. It is a lovely fine dining restaurant.

~ Waterside:Waterside in The Landmark Hotel is one such place. It is present in The Landmark Hotel, Mall Road, Kanpur. It is a lovely fine dining restaurant.

~ Shankar Mithai Wala: shankar mithai wala, Mathura is a perfect destination for a great time with your dear ones. Enjoy the attractions of this popular tourist spot. With so much to lure your senses and offer you recreation at its best, get drenched in the spirit of adventure that you get to explore at shankar mithai wala, Mathura.

~ Krishna Bhojnalaya: It's a dhaba with a modern twist to it,situated near the railway station.The food has freshness of that of a dhaba whilst the ambiance equals that of a restaurant. The food is simple yet delicious.



BIHAR

~ Takshilla : Takshila is one of the fine dining restaurants housed within Hotel Chanakya in Birchand Patel Path. It’s the place to go for North Indian food, as well as anything with a touch of North West Frontier Province flavors.

~ Bansi Vihar :At a short from walk from Patna Junction railway station sits the city’s landmark restaurant for South Indian cuisine. The simple, unassuming décor lets the powerful flavors of the food do the talking.

~ Patna Rasoi: If you want to enjoy your veg meal in a nice ambiance, head out to Patna Rasoi. At this place, they serve South Indian, North Indian, and Chinese fare.

~ Pukhtaan :A place known for its amazing buffet spread, Pukhtaan takes you through a multi-cuisine journey of Awadhi, Mughlai, Chinese, and North Indian fare.

~ The soda fountain: How about visiting an iconic restaurant that traces its roots to the pre-independence era? A pure vegetarian restaurant, the Soda Fountain was started way back in May 1947. At that time, the place was a massive eatery that could even seat 400 people at a time and was highly popular. But due to a tragedy, the place had to be shut down in 1973. The present unit was started at the same location by the owner’s grandson in 1996. Since then, the place has consistently maintained to provide quality food to the visitors.



GUJARAT

~ Agashiye: It is the rooftop restaurant and it ranks 1st among the people of Gujarat, when it comes to fine dining. The thalis in the restaurant have all the varieties of famous Gujarati cuisine.

~ Jassi de Parathe : The Jassi De Parathe is different from any other paratha stalls since it serves homely food with a lot of love. Jasvinder Kaur is the owner of the hotel. She loves to eat traditional food, which is the reason she started  cooking and serving home-made parathas to those visiting the hotel.

~ Gopi Dinning hall: It is a restaurant where you can have delicious Gujarati food at an affordable cost. During lunch and dinner it consists of flavourful items. It is a vegetarian friendly restaurant. Halwa and Kadhi are the favorite dishes of the people who visit this place.

~ Rajwadu: It is the restaurant which resembles the set of the traditional village. The restaurant serves you tasty Gujarati and Rajasthan cuisines. It also has the traditional items at the mini stores in the restaurant.

~z: It is present at R C Dutt Road, Alkapuri, Vadodara, Gujarat. It is the wonderful place to have a calm and high-quality dinner in Gujarat. The food is excellent along with soothing music in the background.



MADHYA PRADESH

~Bhopal Express: Once known as Shan-E-Bhopal, this is the world’s first restaurant to be built inside of a renovated broad gauge railway coach, located in the Hotel Ashok’s greater compound. You can choose to sit inside the coach or outside.

~ Manohar : Though it began as a simple shop selling milk in 1978, Manohar has expanded and flourished into a bustling operation that can seat up to 180 people – which they do in droves, at all hours of the day.

~ Under the mango tree: Under The Mango Tree is a superb open-air fine dining establishment, located inside one of the best hotels in Bhopal, The Jehan Numa Palace. This ultra-chic space is all about openness, from the surrounding views of greenery and tranquil water fountains to the un-walled kitchen, which offers customers a view of the food as it’s skillfully prepared.



MAHARASHTRA

~Swati Snacks:This standby in Tardeo, one of Mumbai’s old-money enclaves, is the neighborhood’s favorite spot for vegetarian snacks from western India. Try the suva panki (fine films of rice batter stuffed with dill and steamed in banana leaf) or the thalipeeth (a crisp multigrain flatbread).

~ Bayview: Bayview café is one among the few places in urban center that has a tremendous top. you'll relish on luxurious food and sip on chilled beverage or wine whereas loving the urban center lineation.

~Brittania Co: The Parsis — Zoroastrians with roots in Iran — are among Mumbai’s most culturally influential communities. Britannia, the most famous Parsi place in town, earns its keep on the nonagenarian proprietor’s theatrical odes to Queen Elizabeth and "Madam Hillary Clinton."

~Flamboynte: This restaurant offers a casual vibe and had a variety of cuisines ranging from Asian, continental, Japanese, indian etc. The food tastes great and the pricing is affordable. We ordered the Burmese Khow Suey and some dimsums.

~Mondegar Cafe: Quirky cafe serving American & Indian dishes amid retro decor like a jukebox & wall caricatures.

~ The Bombay Canteen: Mumbai has its share of slick, buzzy restaurants — many of them set in the old mill compounds — but none of them feels as essentially of (and essential to) the place as the Bombay Canteen, conceived and developed by Floyd Cardoz, a Bombay native who made his name at New York’s Tabla.

~ Paasha: Over in bustling Pune, the second largest city in the state of Maharashtra, is Paasha – a beautiful rooftop restaurant and lounge specializing in the rich, exotic flavors of north Indian cuisine.



GOA

~ Calamari :Binge on some exquisite meals only at Calamari at Candolim to have a taste of real authentic Goan cuisines. We highly recommend this place and we're sure you won't go home disappointed as they've got a mouth-watering list of dishes on their menu to satiate your hunger pangs.

~ Thalassa :Perched on a hilltop, overlooking the magnificent Arabian Sea and picturesque small Vagator beach lies the best Restaurant in Goa serving exquisite greek food - Thalassa. Not just a Greek taverna in Goa, but a place where the warmth and sheer happiness of Greek hospitality amalgamate instinctively with the laid back, free and tranquil atmosphere and vibe of Goa.

~ Cafe Bodega: In the sunny courtyard of the Sunaparanta Centre for the Arts, Bodega is quiet, peaceful and welcoming open throughout the day. The café has a charming ambiance with a view of the open outdoors, non-intrusive music, free Wi-Fi and pleasant staff. Given the paucity of places in Panaji where you can get wholesome breakfast, Bodega tops the list with its all-day-breakfast menu.

~ Burger Factory: Anjuna’s very own Burger King, this is a small set up with cozy interiors and provides some of the yummiest burgers in the vicinity. The people at the joint are friendly and always ready to assist others.

~ The black sheep bistro: A unique and beautiful restaurant in Panaji, missing out on this one should definitely be a crime as it offers scrumptious dishes to binge on. Their well-lit ambiance and artsy decor will make you come back again for sure.

~ Britto's:Just cant leave Goa without visiting this place.If you want to taste the best of Goan food, here is the place for you. View of Baga beach,beer to chill, sea food starters in your table.
